Mascara Review: MAJOLICA MAJORCA LASH KING

This is one of my long due posts (my apologies I have been busy for the past few months) and I am glad I was able to write a review about it! Yay!

MAJOLICA MAJORCA is a Japanese brand that is a sister company of SHISEIDO. They offer a range of cosmetics and right now I am about to give my review for this raved mascara. *_*

They have variety of mascaras and unfortunately I was not able to purchase their best selling Lash Expander variant (it was out of stock that time). But I happen to stumble on the other variant which is claimed to be also one of their best selling...presenting MAJOLICA MAJORCA LASH KING:

It's SRP is Php 795.00 available at SM Department stores:

It comes with a decent and nice packaging:

This is how the mascara brush looks like:

As you can see, it has a bit of fibers and fine brushes to create great looking lashes!

This is how my lashes looks like without mascara (I just used FANNY SERRANO EYELASH CURLER here):

Now its time to put it on a test!

As you notice, I intentionally make my lashes a bit segmented by applying it in a zig-zag pattern because I only have few lashes (some of my lashes fall off because of lash extensions) to make it look thicker but you can always make it individual fine lashes ^_^

As you can see, the lashes are defined and becomes longer and thicker. Mind you, it lasts all-day, no smudges, no PANDA EYES, no clumping.

Other friends even gives me this compliment that I have been wearing lash extensions!  Teehee!

My kikay verdict? (1 to 10, 10 being the highest)

COST: 7 (it was way expensive than other mascaras and not everybody can afford to buy it especially if you are on a budget).

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 (It gives what you are paying for; it doesn't smudge; it gives curling effect; it thickens and lengthens my lashes)

STAYING POWER: 10 (It lasts all day; waterproof).

I'm rating it 4.5 out of 5 total points. What I like about this product is that it doesn't smudge, no clumping, one to two coats is fair enough. But take note that IT WAS REALLY HARD TO REMOVE and you need to use the right make-up remover to be able to remove it with ease...or else you will end up ruining your own lashes.

In my case, I use POND's perfect care lemon cold cream:

But you can always use other oil-based make-up remover.

Here is the correct way to remove your waterproof mascara:

There are still other ways to remove it and you can look for a bunch of videos over the net:)

Will I purchase one again when I'm done with it?

The answer is DEFINITELY YES!

But I myself wanna try their bestselling LASH EXPANDER!

Btw, currently, MAJOLICA MAJORCA LASH KING is on sale.  Instead of Php 795.00, you can purchase it for only Php 499.00 until February 28 of this year. If you want to see this promo, click HERE.

Mascara Review: SHAWILL CURLING MASCARA

I love having defined lashes for it accentuates my eyes.  This is the reason why I was addicted to eyelash extensions but frequent lash extensions makes my lashes fall out :(  So there comes a time that I have decided to rest for a while and stick to mascaras.

I am aware that using the wrong kind of mascaras adds insult to the injury (you know what I meant). Unless you were satisfied with those smudging and not waterproof mascaras, you'll end up having dark patches/stains over the eyelids and under the eyes, or every time that you are sweating, you'll be mistakenly identified as KUNG-FU PANDA. *sigh*

Good thing I frequently search the net and read forums, and there's one product that girls have been raving for it's cheap but quality mascara...I am talking about this:

It costs less than Php 200.00.

I have been seeing it for a couple of times, particularly at WATSONS. It was MADE in CHINA.  But I have this mentality before that you should pay the price to be able to get the best (or tolerable if not the best) quality.  But it doesn't apply all the time.

Surprisingly, it claims the following:

They claim that you'll have thicker and longer, waterproof lashes when applied

I tried it for myself:

It was amazing that it makes my lashes longer!  Just don't overdo it for you might end up creating lumps on your lashes.  Two coats is enough for a glamorous touch up ^_^

The mascara brush looks like this:

The mascara brush is perfect for creating longer and thicker lashes (there are fibers)

Not bad for its price.

My kikay verdict? (1 to 10, 10 being the highest)

COST: 10 (it was way cheaper than those high-end mascaras)

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 (Despite of its lower cost, it doesn't compromise the quality it gives; it doesn't smudge; it gives curling effect; it thickens and lengthens my lashes)

STAYING POWER: 9 (It lasts all day; waterproof) but my lashes fall down its curls after a few hours of wearing it (but you can always give a single coat of a better mascara over this one).

I'm rating it 4.0 out of 5 total points. What I like about this product is that even if it is waterproof, it doesn't give me a hard time removing it compared to other waterproof mascaras. Amazing.

Will I purchase one again when I'm done with it?

The answer is YES!

Try it for yourself and let me know your reviews.

Eyelash Curler Review: FANNY SERRANO by F21 COSMETICS

I was born with short and thin lashes so it was really a "girl dilemma" to me how to accentuate my eyes (in fairness I have brown eyes, so it lacks a bit when it comes to brows and lashes).

Upon reading reviews over the net, the best eyelash curler is SHU-UEMURA's eyelash curler (it was claimed as picture-perfect lash curl that lasts)...but then again, it roughly costs USD 20-28  (that's approximately Php 1,000 or more) T_T and once the eyelash curler refill is damaged, they don't sell separate refills (there are only 2 refills i think) so you will be forced to buy a new one. OUCH!

Source: http://www.instyle.com/instyle/best-beauty-buys/product/0,,20360907_20356224,00.html

One time I passed by one of the stalls in SM North Department Store, and luckily I found an eyelash curler at Fanny Serrano by F21 cosmetics. Been hearing a lot of raves about this so I told myself why not give it a try?

...and the best thing about it, they sell refills at a reasonable price!

approximately Php 45.00

So let's proceed to the test!

The curlers actually looked like (or should I say have similarities) with SHU UEMURA's eyelash curler.

Both SHU-UEMURA and FANNY SERRANO by F21 Cosmetics' eyelash curler have this feature: wide-angled opening that can cater almost all kinds of eye shapes, though with SHU-UEMURA, it's a bit better in the handle opening.  But then, it is still tolerable.

This is how my lashes looks like when not using an eyelash curler:

This is how my eyelash look like after using Fanny Serrano Eyelash curler:

Notice how it curls naturally!

Mind you, it lasts all day long!  It even looks beautifully with Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara! Amazingly, it doesn't break my lashes and there's no OUCH thingy when using it!!!!

My kikay verdict? (1 to 10, 10 being the highest)

COST: 10 (it was way cheaper than those high-end eyelash curler)

EFFECTIVENESS: 10 (Despite of its lower cost, it doesn't compromise its natural looking result when used properly)

DURABILITY: 9 (Fair enough for it's price)

STAYING POWER: 10 (It lasts all day)

I'm rating it 4.5 out of 5 total points.

Will I purchase one again when I'm done with it?

The answer is DEFINITELY YES!

How about you?  Do you find it reasonably good?

BB Creams Review: TONY MOLY 3D EXPERT COLLAGEN BB CREAM

This is my third attempt to review a BB Cream. ^_^

My husband has been telling me about his office colleague who buys stuff at TONY MOLY... and I, being a fashionista, was very eager to know what/where is this store!  I happen to see it (again) at SM North. So, here am I, finding myself looking and heading to the store.  And guess what?  Because of the phenomenal BB Cream. Yay!

A Triple Function Cosmetic: Whitening + Anti-Wrinkle + UV Ray Protection
Contains Golden Peptide which has excellent synthesizing capability, provides elasticity to the skin and makes the skin smooth with no uneven skin texture by filling in wrinkles.

This BB Cream has the following features:
-SPF 40, PA +++(Sunscreen protection)
-Contains collagen, which benefits the skin.
-Anti-wrinkle
-Whitening
-Mild Lavender Scent

I tried applying a sample swatch on my arm to see it's shade:

BB Cream sample swatch with a camera flash

BB Cream sample swatch without a camera flash (My apologies for the quality of picture because of a low-light setting)

Now, after applying it on my face with a few pat of face powder:

After a whole day of work:

My kikayholic verdict: (Based on my personal experience)

COVERAGE: It gives medium to heavy coverage. It hides almost all my marks and dark spots except for some of my stubborn pimples. After a few minutes of application, it oxidizes and blends on my skin tone evenly. It doesn't gives a grayish cast.

CONSISTENCY: The cream is somehow a bit of between watery and creamy beige base, moderately spreadable with bare hands. But it was very hard to determine what will be the proper amount to put because it looks sheer when applied.  To avoid overdoing it, I suggest to use a stippling brush and "stipple it" for a flawless finish.

SCENT: It has a mild sweet lavender scent and becomes odorless in time.

OIL CONTROL: I need to put a lot of blotting paper over my face a least every 2 to 3 hours, especially when it is hot, perhaps because it was designed for a sheer/dewy finish. Perhaps it doesn't fit my skin type because of my oily/combination skin. It doesn't break me out.

I just discover, I just have to pat a face powder/apply a mineral powder over it after oxidizing to secure that matte finish for longer hours (I prefer matte finish).

LENGTH OF TIME IT HOLDS: Holds 8 up to 10 hrs on my face.

PRICE: Expensive compared to other BB creams. (Php 1,295.00)

All-in-all, I will rate it as 4.4 over 5. I will definitely be buying this BB cream which is good for everyday use and even for special occasions. What I like most about it, is that it gives a natural glow. But if you are not a fan of a dewy finish, this one is not the best for you, although you may opt to put a face powder or a mineral powder using a Kabuki brush (the latter is the best).

'Til my next post kikays!

BB Creams Review: THE FACE SHOP "FACE IT" MAGIC COVER BB CREAM

Hello Kikay readers out there!  It's meeh again, experimenting and going through to discover what is the best BB Cream for me to have that Photo Finish-Flawless looking skin. *_*

If you have read my post the last time about a certain BB Cream, you'll pretty have an idea what is BB Cream all about.

I happen to stroll on SM North The Block and I accidentally saw a Korean stall "THE FACE SHOP", where in a saw a poster of a very beautiful Korean model (sorry I forgot the name) and again, I must admit, it took my full attention --- I literally stopped, stare and eventually was convinced to get inside the stall having that high hopes.

Now since I am a BB Fanatic, I immediately headed on the BB Cream section and asked the saleslady what is the best BB Cream for a combination skin (I have an oily on the T-zone-dry patches on some parts of the skin), and they gave me this:

The Face Shop "Face It" Magic Cover in Natural Beige 45ml- Php 1,100.00

I immediately purchased this one, and tried it myself:

Sample swatch with a camera flash

Sample swatch without a camera flash (My apologies for the blurred picture because of a low-light setting)

I just noticed, I got the Natural Beige shade, which is a wrong move. I should have chosen a shade lighter than mine, for usually, when the cream oxidizes, it will turn out a bit darker than how it is seen on the sample swatch.  Anyways, I still proceeded with my kikay stuff :p

This is how my skin looks like without any BB Cream:

Now this is how my skin looked like after applying the BB Cream:

BB Cream after applying (and has oxidized) on my face - noticed it's a bit darker/had a gray cast

BB Cream after I tried applying a pat of face powder

My kikayholic verdict: (Based on my personal experience)

COVERAGE: It gives medium to heavy coverage. Surprisingly it hides all of my marks and dark spots even my stubborn pimples. After a few minutes of application, it oxidizes but doesn't blend on my skin tone that much (perhaps because I got a wrong/darker shade for my skin tone). Result is, it gives a grayish cast.  It has SPF 20 as a sunscreen protection.

CONSISTENCY: The cream is somehow a bit of a creamy beige cream base, a bit hard and heavy to spread with bare hands. I guess, using a stippling brush is the best option for this.

SCENT: It has a strong scent (which for me, it doesn't work).

OIL CONTROL: I just need to put some blotting paper over my face once in a while. It doesn't break me out.
Gives a matte, illuminating finish. I do not have to pat a face powder over it all throughout the day and stays a matte finish for longer hours. Aja!

LENGTH OF TIME IT HOLDS: Holds 12 up to 16 hrs on my face. Impressing!

PRICE: Relatively expensive compared to other BB creams.

All-in-all, I will rate it as 3.8 over 5. But, I will have a second thought buying this BB cream again because of the following reasons: a bit expensive, strong scent, hard to spread and a heavy feeling when applied over the face. Likewise, when I   tried applying a face powder over it on other days, I saw small white cakey flakes over my face after a few hours (maybe because of my type of skin).  But then, if you want to have a great coverage and a matte finish, this one is surely a hit! ^_^

'Til then!
